Election 2016: Choosing Our President

On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, millions of Americans ventured to the polls to cast their vote for the next president of the United States, showing their faith in country and the means by which it chooses its government.

In a surprise turn of events, Donald Trump wins the election via the Electoral College count despite losing the popular vote by a substantial margin. Not even Trump himself thought he could or would win, but his supporters were ready to show their colors in a New York minute.

I happened to be in NYC that evening with my camera. I headed to the Javitz Center to photograph what I thought would be the victory celebration for Hillary Clinton. On the way there, I started receiving texts from friends worried Hillary would lose; at the time, she'd lost key states and was falling further behind Trump. Soon after, as I approached the Clintion campaign headquarters, I began seeing seriously dejected Clinton supporters flooding the streets... the historic result was setting in, and the nation was preparing to speak out.
